Happy Sunday! Last one of 2018!
That's so wild to me because when the year was new, Sunday Downloads weren't yet a reality. They were a concept I had thought might be a cool idea, but I didn't know where to start or even how to. But I dove right in and it's been so cool to see them unfold. Thank you for interacting with me, listening to the Spotify playlist, and giving such amazing feedback. I'm not sure where I'm going with the Sunday Downloads, let alone with the rest of Coat Check, but it's been a cool trip. Let's do it up even bigger in 2019.
I decided on "Gold" by Chet Faker for the final Download of 2018 because at the beginning of the year, it was hitting my heavy rotation hard. This has always been one of my go-to tracks, and I wanted to pay homage to who I was and what I was doing when this website was in its infancy; a skeleton being built in my tiny Logan Square bedroom in the late hours of the night. Sometimes my Spotify playlists were soundtracking my html research, sometimes I was more interested in Mindhunter or Black Mirror than Wix. Either way, I was in my own little world, which is now published.
That brings us to today's Sunday Download.
Nick Murphy, better known as Chet Faker, hails from Australia, where his career was launched with an immaculate cover of Blackstreet's "No Diggity" in 2011. Murphy adopted the pseudonym to avoid confusion with the Australian singer of the same name, but has since announced that he is reverting back to his birth name as his music shifts from being more of a project to being his life.
Nick Murphy, formally known as Chet Faker, currently has no content present in the tour tab of his website. From delivering the Missing Link EP in 2017 and with 2.7 million monthly Spotify listeners, though, I'm sure moves are in the works and I'm keeping a sharp eye on his updates.
Honorable Mentions: "Drop The Game" (with Flume), "Bend", "1998"
